Thinking about driving to Qatar for the World Cup? You might want to think again, as the tournament hosts have announced a Dhs5,043 fee for international fans who are planning to drive their own vehicles.

Between Tuesday November 1 and Friday December 23, international arrivals passing through the Abu Samra border crossing must have a vehicle entry permit.

This exceptional entry permit will only be granted to fans who have confirmed accommodation for at least five nights, and there must be a minimum of three passengers in the car.

You will need to apply through the Hayya platform, and if approved, you will need to obtain vehicle insurance and pay a Dhs5,043 non-refundable fee within 24 hours to obtain the permit.

This does not apply to citizens, residents and GCC nationals who have a Qatari ID card driving a vehicle with Qatari number plates.

Fans who cannot obtain a vehicle entry permit will need to leave their car at the border.

You will need to pre-book a space at the car park, and take a bus into Doha Central Station (Al Messila).

The platform for reserving your space will open on Tuesday November 1.

The news comes after the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy revealed more than 18,000 taxis will be available to book throughout the tournament.

The Doha Metro is set to run between 6am and 3am from Saturday to Thursday, and between 9am and 3am on Fridays.

At peak times, there will be trains every 2.75 minutes.
