If you’re flying with Emirates during Ramadan, look out for these special in-flight iftar boxes which will help you break your fast while thousands of feet in the air.

Dubai’s biggest airline will serve up meals in bespoke boxes to thousands of passengers in all cabin classes during the month of fasting.

Iftar meal boxes will include nutritionally balanced meals for all passengers to break their fast.

The boxes feature light bites of hummus, moutabel or muhammara with traditional bread, a hearty chicken mossakan sandwich or herbed chicken sandwich, sweet treats of chocolate almonds, baklawa pistachio mamoul or baklawa pine seed cashew

Passengers will also be given laban to wash it all down.

The meal boxes, which feature traditional Islamic art, will be served in addition to the existing regular hot meal service.

Emirates uses a unique tool to calculate the correct timings for imsak, the time to commence fasting, and iftar while in flight. Keepsake prayer mats are available by request to cabin crew on all flights throughout the month.

The airline bases its times on the sunrise and sunset of the location the flight is passing by using the aircraft’s longitude, latitude and altitude.

When the sun sets, passengers will be officially informed of the iftar time by the captain.

At select Emirates boarding gates during iftar time, complimentary iftar boxes will be handed out to fasting travellers. They’ll get a box containing water, laban, a banana and dates.

And at the lounges at DXB, there will be an array of regional sweets, dates and coffee available during Ramadan.

Traditional dishes available in first and business-class lounges will include a selection of hot and cold mezze, lentil soup, mixed grill, lamb mandi and so much more.

For dessert, you’ll find pistachio kunafa, kathayef cream, basbousa saffron, kitta cheesecake and cheese kunafa among other dishes.

Emirates staff are provided with Ramadan awareness training for its cabin crew and on-ground teams in Dubai.
