vUAE’s Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has cancelled flights to and from the UAE until June 30, the airline said on Tuesday.

The airline added that it had to divert many of its flights to other airports on Monday evening following the closure of multiple airspaces in the wake of Iran’s strikes on a US base in Qatar.

“The safety and security of our passengers and crew remain our highest priority,” the airline said.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi’s statement comes moments after Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air announced an identical suspension of flights to the UAE.

“We will keep you informed as the situation evolves,” the carrier said.

Passengers flying to or arriving at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi should be prepared for possible flight delays and cancellations, the airport administration said earlier.

Thus, against the backdrop of the closure of airspace in the region, a so-called cascade effect is observed, affecting the air travel schedule. Passengers should check the status of flights with their airlines in advance before leaving for the terminal.

National carrier Etihad has suspended flights on the Abu Dhabi - Tel Aviv route until July 15 inclusive. Flights to Jordan were temporarily canceled, but have now resumed. Due to airspace restrictions, the carrier is also rerouting a number of other flights.

Air Arabia has suspended flights to Iran and Iraq, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia - until June 30, to Jordan - until June 25 inclusive. Sales offices in Iran are temporarily closed.
